When NK Eyewear & Optics was developing its new

It wasn't just about creating a beautiful environment. The vision was to shape a space that felt alive, personal, and thoughtful. It was to be a place where form and function interact naturally. Behind the idea was Marina Kereklidou, one of Sweden's most influential creative profiles in fashion and design.

We at Smålandsinredningar were commissioned to realize her vision in physical form. This meant finding solutions that could convey a sense of movement, flow, and balance. Additionally, we were to create a practical and sustainable retail environment for both staff and customers. For us, it was a project that combined our love of craftsmanship with our interest in architecture and design.

The work began with us, together with the NK Eyewear & Optics team, reviewing the entire concept. We discussed the feel of the space, how one moves through the store, what is seen first, and how the light falls along the walls. It was important that every element of the interior contributed to the whole without dominating.

One of the challenges was the 50-meter-long back wall that runs through the entire store. Rather than being straight, it was to follow a soft, organic form that guides the visitor onward. To achieve this, we needed to work with both precision and a delicate touch. We developed several prototypes and tested various materials and solutions before finding the right balance between aesthetics and durability. Everything was manufactured in our workshop in Småland, where our carpenters paid great attention to detail. Every curve and every joint was crafted with care to ensure the lines felt natural and harmonious.

For us, store interiors are always about creating an environment that feels right, not just looks good. At NK Eyewear & Optics, it was important that every surface had a clear function. At the same time, the overall feel should be calm and inviting. The choice of materials played a major role. We worked with natural tones and surfaces that capture the light softly. This gave the space a warm expression and created a pleasing contrast to the precise shapes of the eyewear.

The lighting was integrated into the walls to enhance the store's flow and highlight the products without being distracting. The result was a store that feels personal and meticulously crafted. It is a place where customers can discover, try, and experience without stress.

The result is more than just a store. NK Eyewear & Optics has become a place that reflects the brand's soul, where design, function, and customer experience go hand in hand.
